Gabe Fierro
Assistant Professor, Computer Science
Gabe Fierro is an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at Colorado School of Mines, with a joint appointment at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory. Dr. Fierro works at the intersection of databases, cyberphysical systems, the Internet of Things, data modeling and semantic interoperability. His research focuses on the design and development of efficient, practical systems that enable sustainable practices at societal scale through making critical cyberphysical data easier to discover, manage and leverage.
Dr. Fierro is a founder and the lead maintainer of Brick Schema, an open-source ontology and data model that defines a standard representation for smart building data. Dr. Fierro is an internationally recognized expert in ontology design for cyberphysical systems and is actively involved with the IEA Annex 81 investigation and the development of the emerging ASHRAE 223P standard. He is one of 11 recipients of the inaugural CMD-IT-FLIP dissertation fellowship and has won several Best Paper and Best Presentation awards at international research conferences.
